Moving to a new city or town can be an incredibly exciting time, but it can also be pure chaos if you don’t plan accordingly. Hiring professional movers, who have years of experience packing, planning, and moving your valued possessions is always the best idea.
Finding the right movers might seem like an overwhelming task especially when thinking about all the other items on your “To Do” list when you are in the throes of moving. To make things a little easier, we have come up with 5 questions that you will want to ask your moving team before you schedule your moving date.

#1 – Who Is My Main Contact?
During the course of any move, whether it is across the country or across town, there will inevitably be lots of questions for your moving team. We field many important questions in the days and weeks leading up to a move such as questions about: arrival time, how long things will take, preparations that need to be made and the list could go on forever. You will want to know who you should speak to each time a question arises. Having a main contact to ask for can streamline your inquiries.
#2 – Are You Properly Licensed?
To avoid moving scams, you will want to ask for proof of licensure and insurance that comes with most professional movers. All professional interstate moving companies should have a license number issued by the United States Department of Transportation. You can check their license number and complaint history here. We also suggest that you check with the Better Business Bureau for business rating and accreditation.

#3 – Are There Items That Can Not Be Moved?
Our fully licensed and insured team here at Mastodon is experienced in packing and moving common everyday household items as well as large, priceless items in protected crates. However, some household items such as flammable or explosive items can not go on the moving truck. Before your move we will go over what items you will be moving as well as tips on packing your items, if you are doing it yourself.
#4 – Do You Have References?
The items that most families are planning to move are important family furnishings and valuable possessions. Therefore keeping these items safe during the packing process, move, and unpacking process is critical. You will want to know that your moving team is trusted, responsible, and will care for your furnishings and personal possessions as if they are their own. Check those references and online reviews to be sure your team is top-notch.
#5 – Is Your Quote Binding?
Before we schedule a move, one of our team members will visit your home and discuss with you what needs to be moved, how long it should take, and an approximate cost of the move based upon the amount and distance of the move. We do our very best to be sure that there are no surprises when it comes to costs along the way and communicate with our clients about what the quote includes.
