How to Pack These 4 Fragile Items

If you’re moving out soon and have elected to pack up your home or apartment yourself, you may need a few pointers. After all, not every item from your current living space will join you in traveling to your new home. However, you’ll want to be sure to bring along your most prized possessions. If those possessions happen to be rather fragile, you can’t just throw them in any box. In order to keep your delicate items intact from point A to point B, you’re going to need to utilize a few key packing tips. Check them out below!

Mirrors

Mirrors aren’t just for looking at yourself. In fact, they can be highly decorative additions to any wall of your home. So, it’s not all that uncommon for people to love the mirrors they own. In order to get your favorite pieces to your new residence in one piece (and avoid seven years of bad luck!), be sure to wrap each mirror in either towels, sheets, or blankets. Wrap a few layers around each mirror with a piece of sturdy cardboard placed between the glass and the blankets for added stability. When you place the wrapped mirror into a box, fill any open spaces with packing paper to ensure movement within the box is minimal.

Books

Although books may not be as fragile as mirrors, they certainly have their weaknesses. They are especially susceptible to water and humidity and depending on how you pack them, they could be damaged before you have the chance to take them back out of the box. To minimize book tragedy, reinforce the bottom of your chosen boxes with plenty of packing tape. This will keep the bottom of the box from falling out and sending your books clattering to the floor. Another ace tip is to use only small or medium sized boxes since high book weight can sometimes be too much for the bottoms of large boxes.

Electronics

It’s impossible these days to not have at least two valuable electronics in your life. To guarantee safe arrival, use lots of bubble wrap and packing paper to secure your electronics within their respective boxes. It can be hard to remember this next bit with all the moving chaos going on but remove batteries from all portable electronics too.

Dishes

Finding plates you love can actually be trickier than you think, which is why it’s important to pack them properly for a big move. To keep your dishes safe, line the bottom of your chosen box with crumpled packing paper before you start placing the dishes in the box. Strategically place your dishes and ensure each one has been covered with packing paper before moving on to the next one. Once you have your plates neatly packed, seal the box with a hearty helping of packing tape.
